Awarded MSC Status by the Malaysian Government

The year 2005 marked yet another important milestone for Inneta Corporation Sdn Bhd (Inneta). The company was awarded the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) status by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC) in November this year. MSC Status is the recognition awarded by the Government Of Malaysia through Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC), a body set up by Malaysian government agency for companies that participate and undertake its ICT activities.

Inneta is one of the company who has been awarded MSC status. MSC status has already been awarded to Nokia, Sun Microsystems, Oracle, Motorola, Ericsson and Lucent amongst other leading technology companies with operations in Malaysia.

MSC Malaysia-status companies enjoy a set of incentives and benefits from the Malaysian Government backed by the ten Bill of Guarantees.

  • Provide a world-class physical and information infrastructure.
  • Allow unrestricted employment of local and foreign knowledge workers.
  • Ensure freedom of ownership by exempting companies with MSC Malaysia Status from local ownership requirements.
  • Give the freedom to source capital globally for MSC Malaysia infrastructure, and the right to borrow funds globally.
  • Provide competitive financial incentives, including no income tax for up to 10 years or an investment tax allowance, and no duties on import of multimedia equipment.
  • Become a regional leader in intellectual property protection and cyberlaws.
  • Ensure no Internet censorship.
  • Provide globally competitive telecommunications tariffs.
  • Tender key MSC Malaysia infrastructure contracts to leading companies willing to use the MSC Malaysia as their regional hub.
  • Provide an effective one-stop agency - the Multimedia Development.


The MDEC evaluates applications according to a number of criteria, including the development of local staff, technical innovations, business planning and potential contribution to the development of Malaysia. The creation of the Multimedia Super Corridor in Malaysia’s strategic plan towards achieving “Vision 2020”, a national agenda that sets out specific goals and objectives for long-term development of the country towards the high technology center of the Asia Pacific. This means investing in an environment that encourages innovation, helping companies, both Malaysian and international, to reach new technology frontiers, partnering global IT players and providing the opportunities for mutual enrichment and success. The MSC will also accelerate Malaysia's entry into the Information Age, and through it, help actualise Vision 2020.

Companies seeking MSC status and eligibility for incentives will need to fulfill three criteria: firstly, they must be a provider or a heavy user of multimedia products and services; secondly, they must employ a substantial number of knowledge workers; and, thirdly, they should be able to outline how they will transfer technology and/or knowledge to Malaysia, or otherwise contribute to the development of the MSC and the Malaysian economy.
